But the further one goes, the more one realizes that they were never made from a single material. Reason can coexist with emotion. Toughness still has room for softness. The clashes that once changed us are also part of who we are today. Therefore, maturity lies not in retaining one side and denying the other, but in the ability to forge all these seemingly opposing parts in one direction.
WHERE MATERIAL BEGINS TO TAKE SHAPE
The Ashdown Forge Pendant Helios Silver represents Chapter 2 - The Forge in HELIOS' 10-year journey. The name Ashdown is inspired by Ashdown in East Sussex, England, a region associated with the long history of metallurgy in Wealden. Iron ore, charcoal, water sources, and furnaces coexisted there to take raw material through heat, pressure, and human hands before achieving its final form. HELIOS chose this image not merely to talk about blacksmithing. "The Forge" is a metaphor for the process of human formation: some things we are born with, but many other parts only appear after being tested, adjusted, and forced to redefine ourselves.
Fire can soften metal, but fire alone does not determine what the metal will become. Heat only creates a state where the material can change; its final shape depends on how it is forged.
The same goes for humans.
A collision does not inherently make us stronger, nor does a failure automatically become a lesson. They only become a meaningful part when we are clear-headed enough to understand what we have been through, to retain what needs to be retained, and to change what needs to be changed. Therefore, resilience does not appear in one grand moment. It is created from many times when people put themselves back before their own "forge."
THREE METAL HUES, ONE IMPRINT
The structure of the Ashdown Forge Helios Pendant is built from three vertically stacked blocks, finished with three materials: S925 silver, brass, and copper. Each material has a different hue, characteristic, and way of reacting to time. Instead of making them uniform, the design preserves their differences and places them within a single structure. The three metal hues standing next to each other do not compete to be the most prominent part; each part maintains its own personality but contributes to a calculated whole.
That is also where Ashdown Forge directly touches upon the human story. We have parts that are clear and easy to name, and also parts formed from clashes, from wrong choices, from hesitations, or from emotions that seem to contradict the image we want to become. But a steadfast person is not made by cutting away all that is contradictory. Steadfastness appears when we are capable enough to put them in their right place. Reason knows when to yield to emotion. Ambition knows its limits so as not to become reckless. Toughness still maintains a principle so as not to become cold. Different parts still exist, but they no longer pull a person in different directions.
SUNFLOWER – MAINTAINING A DIRECTION AMIDST DIFFERENCES
On each metal block is the image of a Sunflower, a symbol that has appeared throughout HELIOS' design language. If the three materials represent the different parts that make up an individual, the Sunflower becomes the connecting point between them: the same symbol placed on surfaces of different hues, just like a direction is maintained even though a person has gone through many states.
Sunflowers always turn towards the light. With Ashdown Forge, this image is not used to tell a simple story of optimism. What is more noteworthy is the ability to maintain direction. On a long enough journey, change is almost certain. The person of a few years ago may no longer be the same as the person today; things once absolutely believed in may have to be re-evaluated. Maintaining direction does not mean standing still. It is the ability to change the way of walking while still understanding where one is going.
Therefore, the three Sunflowers on the three materials do not represent three versions to choose from. They are like three states that have all gone through a forging process: different hues, different experiences, but lying on the same axis. When the direction is clear enough, the internal differences no longer fragment a person. They become depth.
AN IMPRINT FOR WHAT HAS BEEN FORGED
From the outside, the Ashdown Forge Helios Pendant is a combination of S925 silver, brass, copper, and the Sunflower symbol. But behind that structure is a cross-section of HELIOS' journey looking at maturity after 10 years: people do not need to become a single material to achieve consistency. True consistency comes when different parts have all found their place and collectively serve a single direction.
There is reason, there is emotion. There are parts chosen, and there are parts formed after clashes. There are things once thought to be opposing but ultimately create one person. The important thing is not to eliminate them, but to be able to forge them in one direction.
Ashdown Forge was created to retain that reminder. Because in the end, courage is not a ready-made material. Courage is something that is forged.
